We specialise in helping teens learn how to study.
We’re here to help you help your teen learn the study skills they need to reach their academic potential at high school.

Do you know your teen is failing to reach the level of academic achievement they’re capable of?
Are you frustrated with their negative attitude towards school and studying?
Does studying seem like a complicated mystery to your teen?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions you’re not alone, and you’ve come to the right place.
Many of the students we’ve tutored over the years have been bright and switched on. But when it came to sitting tests and exams, they pretty much sucked.
When we first started tutoring we were puzzled. These kids seemed to keep up with our lessons just fine, completed practice problems without much help, but when it came to exams – big fail.
We now know what the problem was. They didn’t know how to study!
So these kids were absolutely fine when we were helping them each step of the way during lessons, but when they sat down to study on their own, they were stumped.
This explains why so many students struggle at school! And also why so many students are disinterested. They’re not ‘dumb’ – they just don’t have the study skills they need to understand, absorb, and retain information on their own.
This is where we come in.
By the time we finished university we felt pretty confident in our ability to study and to get the marks we needed/wanted. Yay for us. But wait – does that mean every student has to wait until the end of university until they know how to nail exams?
How stupid this would be! High school exams are extremely important. The students of today need to know how to study now – not in six years time!
So at the beginning of 2010 we set out on our mission; To share everything we knew about school, studying, and exams with the high school students of today, so they can start perfecting their study skills now.
But how many teenagers are frantically searching Google for proven study techniques? Probably not too many. And probably not the ones who need help the most. So that’s why The Study Gurus is for you, the parents.
You’re the one who wants your child to succeed. You’re the one who understands your teen needs to put in the work at school today, not in five years time when it’s too late.
Why are we the people for the job?
Not that we want to blow our own trumpets, but in a nut shell – studying is what we do best. It’s our thing. We both achieved highly at high school and at university.
But what’s just as (if not more) important is that we know why we do well. We exactly what steps we take every time we sit down to write an essay, or complete an assignment, or swat for an exam.
We’ve got the process down. Which means – we can teach this to your teen.
After high school, Chris went on to complete a Biomedical Science degree with first class honours. He specialised in human genetics, with a particular focus and interest on the genetics surrounding the development of cancer. After a few years working as a research scientist for a small biotech company, Chris is now aiming to study medicine at the University of Melbourne in 2012.
Being slightly less keen on the hard-core academic side of things, Clare pursued a post-graduate diploma in Bioscience Enterprise at the University of Auckland after completing her degree in Biomedical Science. Also an eternal student, Clare is currently planning to study Law in 2012. Boston Legal fan anyone?
We are both extremely passionate about learning and achieving the things you want to in life.
